1.often表示“经常”，通常放在行为动词之前，特殊动词（助动词、情态动词、动词be）之后，often可以放在句首，还可有放在句末。often通常用于与一般现在时、一般过去时或者一般将来时，大家要特别注意often与情态动词will连用，表示一种将来惯常的行为，与情态动词would连用，表示过去惯常的行为。
She is often late for work.她经常上班迟到。
They often go to cinema together.他们经常一起去电影院。
You must often come to see her.你要经常来看她。
2.often放在句末用来加强语气
You won't see me often.你不会经常看到我的。
He writes to me often.他常常给我写信。
3.often放在句首时表示强调
Often did we warn him not to do so. 我曾常常警告他不要那样做。
4.与will连用表示将来惯常的行为：
We will often help the old men next year.明年我们将经常帮助这个老人。
They will often come here next week.下周他们打算经常来这里。
5.与情态动词would连用，表示过去惯常的行为
When we were children, we would often stay up all night.我们当孩子时经常通宵不睡。
6.often后接动词过去式用于一般过去时
