出错和闹笑话是语言学习的一部分，什么时候不觉得尴尬了，你的语言水平就上层楼了。英语中就有不少容易被认错或者造成误解的词句，比如：call you names，这个短语特别容易让人望文生义，看成“叫你名字”的意思，这就偏差大了。

词典中对 call you names 的释义是这样的：If someone calls you names, they insult you by saying unpleasant things to you or about you（如果有人call you names ，那么就是指他们对你说一些不愉快的话或说一些关于你的难听的话来侮辱你）。

所以，call you names 的实际意思是辱骂你，中伤你，另外还有给你取难听的外号的意思，它衍生的名词形式是 name-calling 。

这是一种让人不悦甚至感觉羞辱的行为。

比如：

Next time you dare call me names, I'll give you another black eye.

“叫你名字”的英语翻译是 call your name，不是 call you names，两者是有细微差别的：前者是所有格 your和单数 name，后者是宾格 you 和复数 names 。

比如：

我可以一直呼唤你的名字，但你却永远听不见我的声音。

You'll just have to wait until they call your name.

你得一直等到他们叫你的名字。
