今天介绍两个限定词（determinative）:his和her。在一些辅导书中称为物主名词代词。使用“限定词”更能体现词语的词性和作用。限定词用来对某些名词进行限定，his的限定作用体现在“他的”范围内，her的限定作用体现在“她的”范围。而作为物主名词代词则不能标明它们的词性。
另外，his和her均有两种词性，均为代词（pronoun），但两者的意思或者两者代表的意义不一样。
his作为代词，意思是他的某种东西（of or belonging to him），具体是什么东西要根据上下文推定。
a friend of his（他的朋友中一位朋友）
her作为代词，意思为她，是she（她）的宾格形式。
