浩瀚长江，由此入海。独特的地形地貌，深厚的历史文化底蕴，造就了南通丰富多彩的旅游观光资源。南通现有国家4A级以上景区13家，其中濠河风景名胜区为国家5A级景区，狼山风景名胜区、如皋水绘园、海安江淮文化园、中国工农红军第十四军纪念馆、中国叠石桥国际家纺园、海门张謇文化旅游景区、南通森林野生动物园、南通洲际绿博园、南通啬园、如皋盆景大观景区、启东碧海银沙景区、海安博物馆等为国家4A级景区。
Located on the north bank of the Yangtze River estuary, Nantong is abundant in all kinds of tourism resources thanks to its unique topography and landform and profound historical and cultural heritages. The city boasts 13 famous tourist attractions rated as AAAA (4A) or AAAAA(5A).
The 5A-rated tourist attraction is the Haohe Scenic Area, and the 12 4A-rated tourist attractions are the Langshan Mountain Scenic Area, the Shuihui Garden, Jianghuai Cultural Park, Memorial Hall of the Fourteenth Army of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army, China Dieshiqiao International Home Textiles, Zhang Jian Cultural Tourism Scenic Area, Nantong Forest Safari Park, Nantong Intercontinental Green Expo Park, Nantong Seyuan Garden, Rugao Bonsai Sightseeing Scenic Area, Qidong Bihai Yinsha Scenic Area, and Hai’an Museum.
濠河风景名胜区
Haohe Scenic Area
濠河风景名胜区是国家5A级旅游景区。濠河环绕南通老城区，形如葫芦，宛如珠链，被誉为南通城的“翡翠项链”。濠河原为古护城河，距今有千余年历史，是国内仅存的四条古护城河之一。周长10公里，水面1080亩，水面最宽处215米，最窄处仅10米，是国内保留最为完整且位居城市中心的古护城河。
The Haohe Scenic Area is a famous 5A-rated national tourist attraction.
The Haohe River is dubbed the “jade necklace” of Nantong as the gourd-shaped river encircles the old downtown area of Nantong like a chain of jade beads.
Boasting a history of over a thousand years, the Haohe River is one of the four remaining ancient city moats today in China.
It is 10 kilometers long with its width ranging from 10 to 215 meters, covering a surface area of 1,080 Chinese mu (72 hectares).
The river is China’s most well-preserved ancient moat that runs across the urban area.
濠河两岸有光孝塔、天宁寺、北极阁、文峰塔、南通博物苑、五公园等名胜古迹，有张謇、李方膺、赵丹等名人故居，还有濠西书苑、环西文化广场、文化宫等新兴的文娱场所，人文景观与自然风光融为一体。
There is an assortment of historical buildings along the Haohe River, including the Guangxiao Pagoda, the Tianning Temple, the North Pole Pavilion, the Wenfeng Pagoda, the Nantong Museum, and the Five Parks. As well-known figures such as Zhang Jian, Li Fangying and Zhao Dan used to live by the river, their former residences become famous tourist attractions now.
Meanwhile, emerging entertainment venues have been built along the river, including the Haoxi Library, the Huanxi Culture square, and the Cultural Palace.
The Haohe Scenic Area is exemplary of a perfect blend of cultural attractions and natural landscapes.
狼山风景名胜区
Langshan Mountain Scenic Area
狼山风景名胜区是国家4A级旅游景区，江苏著名六大风景区之一。位于南通城南六公里处的长江北岸，由军山、剑山、狼山、马鞍山、黄泥山五座小山组成，五山自东至西滨江而立，逶迤4.5公里，素有“天然水石盆景”之美誉。
The Langshan Mountain Scenic Area is both a 4A-rated national tourist attraction and one of the six major scenic spots in Jiangsu Province.
Six kilometers away from south Nantong on the north bank of the Yangtze River, the scenic area consists of five hills: Junshan Mountain, Jianshan Mountain, Langshan Mountain, Ma’an Mountain, and Huangni Mountain.
The five hills stretch from east to west for 4.5 kilometers along the Yangtze River, and are hailed as a “natural river and rockery bonsai decoration”.
五山中，狼山最为挺拔俊秀，海拔107米，因其形状似狼而得名，是大势至菩萨的道场，为中国佛教八小名山之一。山顶的广教禅寺为全国重点寺院，始建于唐高宗总章二年（669）。广教寺还供奉着东南亚地区唯一一位穿龙袍的菩萨——大圣菩萨，相传大圣菩萨是观音菩萨的化身，民间有大圣菩萨有求必应、先照远后照近的说法。军山传说是秦始皇当年屯兵之处，山上普陀别院供奉世界最大的翡翠观音座像。
Standing 107 meters above the sea level, the Langshan Mountain (or the Wolf Mountain because of its shape) is the tallest among the five hills.
On the top of the mountain is the Guangjiao Temple which is dedicated to Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva, thus making the Langshan Mountain one of the eight famous Buddhist mountains in China.
As one of the national key Buddhist temples in the country built in the second year of the Zongzhang period reigned by Emperor Gaozong of Tang (669), the temple also houses a statue of Master Seng Jia, who was the founder of the temple and the only Buddhist master wearing an imperial robe in Southeast Asia.
He was regarded as an incarnation of the Goddess of Mercy, and people believed that the master would respond to every prayer, especially prayers from pilgrims coming from afar.
Legend has it that Emperor Qin Shi Huang used to deploy his troops to the Junshan Mountain.
On the mountain stands the Putuo Courtyard, which is dedicated to the world’s largest jade statue of the Goddess of Mercy.
南通博物苑
Nantong Museum
南通博物苑是国家5A级旅游景区濠河风景名胜区的一部分，全国重点文物保护单位，科普教育基地。位于南通城东南濠河之滨，由晚清状元，近代爱国主义者，著名实业家、教育家、社会活动家张謇于1905年创办，是中国人自己创办的最早的公共博物馆。其馆园结合的特色反映了创始者独到的博物馆理念。
As part of the Haohe Scenic Area which is a 5A-rated national tourist attraction, the Nantong Museum serves as both a major historical and cultural site protected at the national level and a science education base.
Located by the Haohe River in the southeast of Nantong, the museum was founded in 1905 by Zhang Jian, a scholar, modern patriot, famous businessman, educator, and social activist in the Qing dynasty.
It was the first public museum founded by the Chinese people, and its mixture of museum and garden characteristics reflects the unique museum planning and design philosophy of its founder.
1988年南通博物苑被国务院公布为全国重点文物保护单位。经过全面规划和建设，历经百年沧桑的博物苑总占地面积扩至7万多平方米，成为人们了解南通、亲近科学、接受文化熏陶及旅游休闲的理想场所。张謇咏叹的“濠南苑囿郁璘彬，风物骈骈与岁新”，得到真实体现。
In 1988, the Nantong Museum was listed by the State Council as a major historical and cultural site protected at the national level.
After comprehensive planning and construction, the total area of the museum has expanded into more than 70,000 square meters.
The museum acts as an ideal place for people to relax and to learn about Nantong’s history, science, and culture.
As Zhang Jian wrote, “The museum to the south of the city moat boasts lush sceneries and houses a wide variety of exhibits, which are constantly evolving with time.”
Today, the Nantong Museum is exactly the same as the way Zhang Jian described it.
